List Fun: Scams I Have Encountered

I am back doing List Fun and this week’s list is Scams I have encountered. You can see other listers and participate by going Here.
I don’t really recall full blown legitimate scams I have been involved with. However, there was a scam that happened to my elderly mother that was pretty disturbing.

Mom

Fortunately my mom did not fall for it, but it went something like this…..She got a call from a man who said “Hi Gramma, it is your grandson!” She made a guess as to which one it was, called him by name and he said, “Yes, this is so and so and I have been arrested. Don’t tell anyone because I am so embarrassed, but can you forward me some money right away so I can make bail?” She, of course, was very upset her grandson was in jail, but said no, feeling that something wasn’t right with this phone call. She then called my brother who called me. I then called my nephew, and, of course, it was all a lie. I was so relieved she didn’t believe him. But how mean, taking advantage of an elderly grandmother like that!!
What scams have you encountered?

A very, very belated thank you for the happy birthday message!  With my husband and kids home for the last week and a 1/2, it’s been a total whirlwind (a good whirlwind though!).
This is horrible.  We have dealt with this with my grandma more times than I can count.  The elderly ‘group’ is such a target for scams, because they often fall for it.
