Summer Reading Recommendations

I love to read, but summer really is a time when most people can sit back, relax, grab an iced tea and settle in with a good book. I have 3 recommendations for books for you this summer. This is from someone (me!) who reads voraciously.

The Little Stranger

1. “The Little Stranger” by Sarah Walters. I am currently reading this book and am loving it. It is set in an old mansion in the English countryside in the 1940′s after the war. Strange things happen in the household and it is riveting from the beginning.

The Housekeeper and the Professor

2. “The Housekeeper and the Professor” by Yoko Ogawa I simply loved this book. This is a moving tale about a housekeeper and her son who develop a relationship with an old, memory disabled mathematics professor. He helps them see a unique beauty in mathematics in a philosophical way.

The Color of Lightning

3. “The Color of Lightning” by Paulette Jiles. This was the first book I read by this amazing author. “The Color of Lightning” can be classified as historical fiction telling a riveting story of children kidnapped by the Comanches in the 1800′s. However, Ms. Jiles is also a poet and tells this story in a beautiful lyrical way. I highly recommend it.

As David Foster Wallace said “Fiction’s about what it is to be a human being.”
