Week Word: Mercurial
First of all, I am sorry about not getting my Inspiration Thursday post up yesterday, it was upgrade time in the Word Press world!!
This week’s word is mercurial. Just to refresh your vocabulary, mercurial means “adjective
1 (of a person) subject to sudden or unpredictable changes of mood or mind : his mercurial temperament.
• (of a person) sprightly; lively.
2 of or containing the element mercury.
3 ( Mercurial) of the planet Mercury.” according to my online dictionary.
Unpredictable changes of mood, lively, sprightly?? Well, what comes immediately to my mind is…..children! Oh, and artists!!
Children don’t know about moods, they just feel in the moment. Don’t get me wrong, they can be happy, sad, playful, angry, hungry, but for the most part, small children live in the moment. I am hurt, so I cry….I think this is funny, so I laugh. I love the lively nature of children. Let’s run around and jump and play and laugh, who cares!!
This enjoying life and it’s array of emotions keeps one fresh, which is what artists aspire to.
Oh, and I must mention the ocean. The ocean is the personification of mercurial.

Children and oceans…never turn you back on them. ;o)
You captured the meaning and intent of this week’s word beautifully! Children are an amazing example of mercurial personified-ever changing, tidal little bursts of elemental forces all stuffed into small bodies. Wonderful post!!
