Follow Your Passion
I am still reading “The Happiness Project” by Gretchen Rubin. She has a chapter on following your passion. Sounds easy enough, but I think for most of us, it is actually difficult. From her experience and the vast reading on the subject of happiness Ms. Rubin did, I venture she would agree.
First, you need to figure out what you are passionate about: is it gardening? writing? painting? guitar? films? My problem is that I know what I am passionate about, it is just having enough hours in the day to do all of them. Yes, all of them. First of all, I am fortunate to be working and enjoying one of my passions at the same time, painting. Then I have my reading passion, which I do do. I read a little everyday and read about a book a week. I feel like I wouldn’t feel alive if I couldn’t read. Then there is my love of fabric. I went through a time where all I wanted to do was sew. I still love it, but have gotten more into knitting. I do knit, it comes in waves, but I am always knitting something.
My music passion, I love my violin and haven’t played in a little under a year and feel terrible about it. I have played more or less consistently since I was 8, but have gotten so busy with work that I just can’t seem to squeeze it in. One problem is that I need music friends. Buddies that I can play with. All my previous musical friends have gone their own way or, I am sad to report, have died. So my new idea is to jam with my sons. One plays the guitar and one plays the drums and both are very musical. Bonding quality time and doing my passion, sounds like an awesome idea!
What are some of your passions and do you make time for them?
