Nourishing my Artistic Soul and Making a List
Ohhh, I have to admit it, I have been quite happy this week reading, working in my fabric studio, being with my family, cooking, and…..having time off from my computer!! I have been nourishing my artistic soul by letting myself be led by my creative desires. Winter break for me has always meant a time to contemplate, be inside with family, and play. I have thoroughly enjoyed time with family. Reading as always been pervasive in my schedule. I spent time absorbed in the new reading biography of Pat Conroy, “My Reading Life”, now I am reading a short biography of Winston Churchill. Always wanted to know more about that courageous British fellow! I also started in earnest working on my vegetarian cookbook that I am writing with my son, JJ. Very excited about this endeavor! And, I puttered and created in my fabric studio. There is nothing more splendid for me than to be sequestered in my fabric room surrounded with wool, colorful fabrics, ribbons, beads, books, and my trusty iron and to make whatever comes to mind. And many things have come to mind. Here is my latest project that I finished this week:
I am into designing my own pieces lately, thinking of fabric, yarn, buttons as my palette and the clothing my sculpture. This sweater is knit with hand spun yarn infused with blues, yellows, and purples. I added blue batik fabric on the hem and the sleeves, and put glass hand made buttons on the button band. Love it, nice and warm!!
Now, to look forward! I have made many cyber friends this year, and one of my new friends, Emily, has started a list party along with 2 of her other blogging friends. I will be joining this fun and every week I will post the latest list. To start it off, we are to list our goals for 2011. So here are mine…..
1) Play my violin more and jam with my sons
2) Finish my vegetarian cookbook
3) Write the children’s book that I have in my head
4) Finish at least half of all my fabric projects I have thought of
5) Spend more time in my painting studio
6) Paint a portrait of my grandson(already did his sisters, can’t leave him out!)
7) Make some mixed media pieces
8) Continue to feel grateful everyday for all the blessings I have
That is it, to tell the truth, I am pretty satisfied with my life, which was on my list long ago to be satisfied with what I have.
Have a happy new year, keep safe and see you all next week!!!

Hi I'm Joye!!

A children’s book? So cool! I can’t wait to read it!! Love your list!
Yeah, thanks
I have the book in my head, just got to make it happen!
Hi Joye!
I just returned from vacation and I am really enjoying reading everyone’s list… including yours! Nice to meet you and discover your blog! You are clearly a very creative person, which is very inspiring (what a nice, full list of creative endeavors!). Can you please let me know how those 2 biographies are? I love Pat Conroy, and also want to learn more about Winston Churchill. Well, I’m off to read this week’s list!
I absoutely loved the Pat Conroy book, didn’t want it to end. It is a wonderful memoir if you love to read. The Winston Churchill biography was a bit dry for my taste, went quickly on to my next book, which I am loving, The Wives of Henry Oades!!
