Joyeful Friday One of Kind Friday, Music in Captivity
While driving today I was listening to a podcast on Fresh Air with Terry Gross. She was interviewing an author, Roxana Saberi about her new book “Between Two Worlds: My Life and Captivity in Iran”. It was an amazing story of a brave journalist who was imprisoned in Iran for not confessing to being a spy. Of course, she wasn’t a spy, she was writing a story about the various people in Iran and was imprisoned during her stay in Iran. Her whole story was totally courageous and amazing, but there was a detail at the end of the interview that I felt was unbelievable. She composed a piano piece while in prison by tapping her fingers on the cell wall to remember her composition. After 100 days she was set free and returned home to Fargo, North Dakota where she finally recorded the piece, “Remember to Fly” which you can buy on iTunes. Check it out, it is a brilliant piece of music, one to make us grateful for our freedom of expression.
