A Day in the Life: How’s the Weather?

I mentioned my collaboration last week with my photographer friend, Janine Joles. She takes gorgeous photos of flowers and I am painting watercolors from some of her selected photos, while she is taking still life photos interpreting some of my paintings. This collaboration is already proving to be fun and inspiring.
Another project I am working on is a series of paintings from my meteorologist friend, Ken Olivenbaum. Ken is one of the kindest most sincere people I have ever met. He is also the only true “weatherman” I have known. Ken sends updates as to upcoming weather and got particularly excited this winter when we had a bout of blizzards. In our conversations about weather(we actually do talk about the weather, not just as a conversation starter!), Ken mentioned that he loves to take photos of different weather situations. I asked to see some of these photos and was blown away as to how beautiful they were.

Ken made the outside and all the various weather seem so breathtaking. I have chosen a few pictures to paint from and we hope to have a collaborative show this fall.
The photo below is the first photo I have chosen to paint from. I love the colors in it and the feeling of perspective.

Oil is the medium I have chosen to paint with and have started by painting an acrylic undercoat of yellow ochre and a charcoal sketch of shapes. Stay tuned!
