A Day in the Life, My Ocean Series

As you have probably figured out, I love to paint. As a working artist, I always have to think of new things to paint. I have mentioned in previous posts several ideas for coming up with new ideas. Some of these are: keeping a memory diary, jotting down ideas in a journal through-out the day, finding awesome photos to work from, and to pick a theme. It’s summer and my family loves to visit the Jersey shore, so what better theme than the ocean?
I started painting yesterday. Grabbing a small watercolor canvas, I perused my photos and found my Margate in April photo, from our visit on a spectacular spring day in, you guessed it, April!

Margate in April

To me this picture evokes a serenity of the beach. I was walking on the boardwalk and enjoying the calm. No people, just the birds and the breeze. This is what the ocean is about to me, calmness.
Picking up my paintbrush, I looked for the hidden colors only an artist can see.

Margate in April

I worked on and off all day on this and I love it! It really feels like the Margate beach to me in the spring.

Wow –  You’ve captured the sense of the tide against the horizon that has always instilled within me a sense of the perpetualness and surety of G-d’s creation and it’s magnificense.  I’m a person who, if I don’t stand on the shore of a beach at least every 18th months or so, goes a little nuts.  Viewing your painting is the next best thing!! Thank You!
