Colors of the Season

Yellow Gladiolas

Since I started painting(which was over 20 years ago) and noticing my surroundings in terms of color, I have realized that each season seems to have a color imprint on my psyche. It is almost as if nature changes color palettes every 3 months. Did you ever notice this? Think about it, of course I am talking about the mid atlantic states where there are four seasons. But I think each environment does have its’ own color theme and changes with the season. Winter around here means grays, browns, taupe, and burnt umber.

Then the world changes palettes and the outside awakens and turns into a high key, pastel, green and blue sky world.

This color change affects my whole being, I find that I want to wear pastel colors and am tired of the dreary grays and browns. I think it affects my painting, knitting, maybe even food….pink potatoes, got to give that some thought(food for thought!).
