Inspiration Thursday: Sunshine

Sunrise

Waking up this morning to 20 degrees, I was thinking about what I was going to post about that inspires me. It was obvious, sunshine, warm sunshine! It seems like such a long time that we have indulged ourselves in the sun here on the east coast.

Harbor Sun

I do enjoy the winter, but when March comes rolling around, it is time for warm sunshine!!

Bay sun

Sun makes a person feel renewed after a long bout of winter.

Sunny window

I guess I will have to settle for the sunny window with the cold outside! I hope warm sunny days are coming your way!

A Day in the Life: Photo Giclees

Dusk

I have been so busy, visiting with family and getting ready for my 4 shows this week, yikes!! I am in the process of photographing my new art to post on my Etsy site and to sell at my real world art shows.
One new item I want to tell you about are my photo giclees. They are digitally enhanced photos I took this past summer at the Jersey shore.

Beach

These giclees are printed on canvas with a black border, stretched, and wired for hanging. very easy gift for someone who loves the ocean and especially the Jersey shore!

A Day in the Life: Color Theory

I have been trying to get back into the swing of things today. But during all my organizing for the week, I have been thinking about color. I love color, always have. It makes me feel happy when there is lots of it, and certain colors make me feel different ways. For instance blue, my favorite color is soothing, and yellow is happy and sunny, but can’t take too much of it. Dark colors feel like they should be inside at night, reds and oranges feel like autumn is coming, pastels are youth and hope. What colors are your favorite and how do they make you feel?

Smiling Faces

I am teaching a watercolor workshop in Ventnor, NJ on Friday on Color and Composition. Color is intuitive to me, I know when to use it and how to design the color choices. My job is to teach beginning artists how to obtain the right color choices and make the color pure and bright. One thing I have realized is that many people don’t know the basics of color theory. For example, the 3 pure colors are blue, red, and yellow. No other color is combined to make these colors, in fact all colors come from these magical three. Isn’t that cool, 3 colors, that is all there is?! Our first task in my workshop will be to compose a painting with these basic, or primary colors.

Van Gogh Bedroom

We will also paint a small study with analogous colors, colors that are similar to each other, like blues and greens.

The Blues

We will also talk about various artists in history and how they have used color to capture a mood or tell a story.

Van Gogh's Starry Night

Should be a lot of fun, especially because I will be talking about color!
