A Day in the Life: New Landscape
I have snuck in some time in my studio, and, boy, do I feel better! I am a painter first and foremost. Here is what I am working on, an oil landscape of a Vermont landscape scene photographed by my friend, Ken. I am painting using palette knives to keep it loose. The yellow ochre space is the canvas under painting I haven’t painted yet.I will keep you updated with my progress!

Week Word: Gypsy
This week’s Word is Gypsy, provided by Carmen at Biomouse. Check out her blog to see her take and other bloggers on the word.
Gypsy, described in my Word Book online dictionary in the thesauras section as “a caravan of gypsies: Romany, Rom, traveler, nomad, rover, roamer, wanderer”. I am going to concentrate on “wanderer” today.
I am a wanderer in the world of color in my artwork:
Love to wander through flowers with their reds, greens and yellows,
And I love to wander through the pastels of blues, pinks and greens!
How about you, what does “gypsy” make you think of?

Musings
I am back from all the holidays and have been working away in my beautiful new boutique. I have so many awesome, creative pieces in my shop, it is a bit overwhelming! I have a dilemma, though. I have a new business that needs constant attention, but I have so little opportunity for myself to create. I need time to paint and sew! I hope I can work this out, because my creativity ventures are me, my soul.
I spent 1 hour in my painting studio this morning, that’s a start!

Cool Artist: Jaimee Newman
I had an awesome opening this past week of a young, talented new artist that you should check out, Jaimee Newman.
She constructs collages based on literature, poetry, or just a concept. The above collage is from a Haruki Murakami short story. When I heard that, it sealed the deal, I am a devoted follower. I feel art is connected to words, music, movement, and basically all creative activity.
Words connote images and Jaimee does an excellent job of executing those images through colorful papers.
Jaimee has been doing a new series of large portraits of famous people which I think she should definitely develop. Way cool.
And then there are her dogs…
She captures the soul and essence of the message. Check out her artwork at her site here, and by the way, I created her website. If you are interested in my web design, contact me.

Inspiration Thursday: Seasons
Driving to my shop today in the spring snow, I was thinking how miraculous it is that our planet has the capability to wake up after a long winter and become spring! My son has planted seeds in small pots placed in our large window in anticipation of the spring planting. They are coming to life, waking up for a new season, right on time, how cool is that??
I do love the seasons and, of course, am ready for some new flowers to emerge to paint!

Inspiration Thursday: Clayboards
I am getting ready to start painting again, yeah!! And I cannot wait to grab my new clayboards and start some new fresh floral watercolors. Here is a piece I did on this surface:
Clayboard is what it sounds like, a surface made from fired clay with no glaze. When painting on it, it is fluid and free and holds bright and intense color!
I will take pictures of my new watercolors, hopefully next week!
